Despite the March Mud, We're Making Progress!
/After a very frosty February, when almost all work ground to a halt, we’ve enjoyed making some progress this past month, despite the mud!
Pad-Car Mechanical Ltd. has basically completed setting up our mechanical room and A-Phase Electrical & Contracting Services Ltd. now has our electrical room ready and Units 11 & 12 wired.
Outside the McKenzie Sharland Grocery, Gord from Block Group Ltd. has created a new boardwalk. Wooden sidewalks were common across the prairies a hundred years ago and a very old photograph shows a boardwalk in front of our building. A necessity during mud season, we think!
Inside, we fabricated a handrail down to the basement. (We were able to save the original handrail to the second floor.) A backsplash was added in the kitchen and Dave (BR Construction) touched up the interior paintwork. The RAM board has been protecting our wood floors. It was a happy day when we removed it and saw our original fir wood floors again. Rae-Cor did a wonderful job of restoring them!
Our first building has had windows and doors installed and initial mechanical and electrical work completed. Gillian from Block Group Ltd. taped (and taped and taped!) before Kevin (VerdaTech) did a preliminary blower test checking for leaks. We’re pleased with the initial numbers and are keen to have a full test done when Bice & Sons finish insulating and drywalling.
Stillinger Construction has been busy framing our second building. This building will have four units, two below and two above, all with attached garages. Barring any more spring blizzards (!!) this building should take shape quickly.
It’s been a good month despite the mud!
