/Amazing what turns up in a renovation project. Some artifacts are obvious, some are not. We found a nice collection of four irons, without handles. These would have been heated on a stove and used in rotation for pressing clothes. Less obvious, but found under the stairs, these two black, long haired items. Hair extensions for a black haired lass? Actually, not. These are horse hair tassels, formerly attached to a sporran. Two generations of Sharlands played drums in the local pipe band and these obviously became detached at a certain point. Did the tassels detach from one of these gentlemen? And finally, a long cylindrical iron object. No idea what this was used for…. any ideas?
A matched set of four stove top irons.
Hair extensions? No, tassels.
Anyone lost a tassel? Leonard A. Sharland on the right with the bass drum.
Or maybe it came from Leonard C. Sharland’s sporran?
What could this possibly be? That’s a 2x4 behind it.
